Does Hot Water Open Pores?

September 23rd, 2009

So I’ve talked about astringents before. Granted the blog is titled “creams” not “liquids one uses on their face” so technically astringents could be considered off topic, but frankly that blog title might be a little too long and people might argue that a cream isn’t a liquid, but rather a solid and then the title would be “liquids and solids one uses…”anyway, I’ll just talk about astringents here in the cream blog. So I believe I’ve mentioned that I read that astringents should be used after one unclogs their pores to close the pores back up and make sure that they stay unclogged.

The problem I think is that sometimes we “accidentally” open our pores when we aren’t intending to clean them per-say so we don’t think to use the astringent. For instance, after a hot steamy shower, I’m sure that everyone washed their face in the shower, but pore cleansing was probably not the main goal of the shower. However, the steam and heat from the shower opened those pores anyway, and unless they are closed, it’s possible that the shower could actually make the pores appear larger and get more clogged because they are open after the shower and vulnerable to getting things clogged into them. So my suggestion is that you use an astringent (or I hear cold water works well too) to close your pores after a hot shower.
