As with any medicine, people are often concerned about side effects of acne creams. Probably the worst side effect ever of any medicine is death. Last January, the US News and World Report printed an article that stated that there was no evidence that the acne cream in question was related to the deaths that occurred during the clinical trials. Clinical trials are important for this exact reason, to assess any possible side effects and to assess if the treatment itself is effective.

In this trial, they were trying to see if the acne cream was useful in treating skin cancer. However the death toll shut down the trial early. It turns out that the death toll had nothing to do with the cream, but rather a failure to take into account the history of the patients. No link was found between the acne cream and the deaths. The point is that no one should use a cream without being aware of any an all potential side effects, however make sure that the news and information you get about these side effects is accurate and recent so that you aren’t unnecessarily worried about something you don’t’ need to be. Certainly everyone has enough to worry about when it comes to acne that we don’t’ need to worry about whether the cream we use to treat it will kill us as well.
